And some recaps from our September 2018 regional retreats….

Come as You Are

This past weekend we had the joy and pleasure of being at Camp Capers, near Comfort, Texas, and in the Hill Country.  There were seven in attendance from Heritage West Region and two from Diocese of the Southwest Region.

Our presenter was Kathleen Phillips, who presented in 2017 as well.  She was so very well received that she did a day retreat in April on the same subject:  Praying with Your Senses.  This year was Prayer and Temperament.  Kathleen has been a spiritual director since June 2000. In August 2004, she was named director of FIND (Formation IN Direction), a Diocese of Texas ecumenical school for spiritual formation and direction. In addition to being a spiritual director for individuals, she conducts workshops, quiet days and retreats on a variety of topics for people on their journey with Christ. Kathleen honed her ability to listen to the souls of others in her career as a journalist, first with a daily newspaper, and has recently retired as manager of a statewide news team for Texas A&M AgriLife, based in College Station. She and her husband Kevin live in the country near Bryan with lots of pets and wildlife. Kathleen is a lifelong Episcopalian, and member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal-Bryan. She nourishes her own soul by sharing life with her kids and grandkids, gardening and practicing various thread arts.  She WILL travel and her fees are reasonable.  She can be contacted at

Ancient Spiritual Practices for Modern Times

Heritage Region (Central) enjoyed a refreshing retreat on Saturday, September 29. Group sessions on Lectio Divina, Christian Meditation, and Singing the Psalms were facilitated by Brother Michael Gallagher and Father Peter Funk.  During the lunch break, participants had opportunities to engage in other spiritual practices: prayer around the cross, the Stations of the Cross, coloring as spiritual practice, visio divina, and walking as prayer.  Old acquaintances were renewed and new friends were made as individuals from 6 different COHI centers joined in conversation and reflection.
